Regional Coordinators—John and Madelle Payne

John and Madelle at Home in Africa.

Did You Know:

  • There are approximately 552 million people in Africa.
  • One in three Africans suffer from malnutrition, while over half of all Africans do not have access to clean drinking water.
  • More than half of all residents survive on less than $1 a day.
  • One in every six children dies before the age of five.
  • In some areas of Africa, the infant mortality rate is as much as twenty times the continental average.
  • Rivers are scarce and not equally distributed through the continent.
  • Climatic changes have destroyed entire sections of farmland and created refugees of nature.
  • Wars continue to disrupt the population's ability to achieve the stability required to begin a path toward self-sufficiency.

But, there is hope. Through LifeWind's regional leadership, the love of Christ is being shared where appropriate, along with life-saving lessons that reduce the spread of disease and increase the self-sufficiency of the village. LifeWind and its network of trainers are working in many African nations teaching agriculture, micro-finance, and disease prevention. In Burundi, for instance, we reduced measles by 50 percent and death from diarrhea by 30 percent in one village. Similar results are being achieved all over the continent. In the Congo, LifeWind projects not only sustained themselves during the civil war, but also multiplied during a time when foreign aid was unable to enter the nation.
