The Regions

Central America

Regional Coordinator—Dr. Hugo Gomez

Hugo Screens Patients in Guatemala.

The countries in our Central America region are tremendously diverse. In some, poverty is prevalent throughout the entire country, while in others, severe poverty exists in the more rural and remote areas. Compared with other regions of the world, the land provides vast natural resources that can provide a path from poverty. Lessons learned through LifeWind’s CHE program bring greater understanding of agricultural techniques, micro-enterprise development skills, as well as health and nutrition insights.

Hugo's team of 32 staff is active in six contries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Mexico), with opportunities to expand into Panama and Belize. They have trained and mobilized 578 active community volunteers who share the love of Christ while teaching lessons on disease prevention, agriculture and micro-finance. As a result, dozens of communities have begun to free themselves from poverty. Several have built churches and many, many more have reduced infections and the spread of preventable diseases.
